Guild Wars, in Brief

I don’t have a whole lot of time on my hands to write this brief comment about Guild Wars. Okay, honestly, I do have time to write more than I’m going to. But, you know what? I want to get back to playing Guild Wars. Here is the skinny:

Guild Wars is a beautiful game. The world has a vibrant fantasy feel to it, with waterfalls, forests, deserts, mountains, and more. The only drawback of this world is that it is somewhat linear in its zone design. That is, you can’t jump over cliff edges (you can’t jump, period… which kinda sucks), swim in water, or go anywhere they don’t want you to go. It is forgivable because the zones are designed quite well.

I am a solo player. Guild Wars is a game that is perfect for a solo player. I can go off and do my own thing just fine, then group up with people when I feel like it. Grouping is mostly useful to me when I feel like killing fools.

Since I’m feeling lazy right now, I’ll sum my reasons for liking Guild Wars so much in the following paragraph:

Guild Wars isn’t all about advancement via the grind. You can level your character rather quickly, then acquire the skills and gear that you want. It is at this time that you can get to owning people in PvP. I don’t have the time to dedicate to levelling up in WoW (I work a lot), and a game like GW is just the ticket for me. While I still enjoy EverQuest II quite a bit on the PvE end, I am a huge fan of PvP and feel I’ll be enjoying Guild Wars for some time to come.

Wow, that was probably the most hastily and poorly written post I’ve made yet. I will have a nice long review that goes into the details of the game at some point in the future. This will probably be a week or two away, so don’t hold your breath (I need to cap out a character and PvP for a while before giving any worthwhile comments).
