I’m not going to outright reveal who I am. If someone in the comments gets it right, I’ll admit it before my next post. Instead of just giving it away, I’m going to make you work for it (mostly because I don’t think anyone actually gives a crap, and this will be my proof. Secondarily, people enjoy puzzles). Here are a few pieces of information that will help you along the way to discovering my real name:
- “Grouchy Gnome” has the same number of letters as my real name, first and last combined.
- Emos dluow refer ot em sa suolupurcsnu. Srehto llits dluow refer ot em sa na live dneif.
- My ronlam rekinom si utiqe rentfedif morf Emong Yhcuorg–it si lony eon drow dan sode ton ratts thiw a G, ghouth mose thimg garue hatt hist eon drow taniscon two.
That’s all you get. Someone will be able to figure out who I am with those three clues (after unscrambling the latter two, of course). I’m curious to see if anyone is even going to try to figure out who I really am from the information provided. If not, then I fear I shall forever live on in anonymity. If you already know who I am (i.e. I revealed it to you in private at one point), please don’t give it away.

I was surprised to learn how many evil developers have 11 letters in their name. Unfortunately, “Grouchy Gnome” has 12, therefore robbing me of one of those special internet wtf moments.

All the candidate names I can think of don’t hit what I believe was the third criteria. I’m all out of good guesses at the moment.

I know the answer…but only because when I added your site to my Technorati faves, it used to show your real name instead of Grouchy Gnome. I’m not telling though cause that would be cheating!

I’ll hazard a guess that you’re Ryan “Blackguard” Shwayder. It fits the first and third clue, and possibly the second clue (couldn’t really say). Just an offhand guess though, if I give it more thought later and think myself incorrect, I’ll hazard another.

I think Andrew is right. I seem to recall that Moorgard or Brenlo mentioned that Ryan convinced them to put a blog up. It implied that Ryan had a blog but I’ve never seen an MMO related block attached to Blackguard.
All the clues match.
To top it off. I found proof Googling for Ryan Shwayder. Looking back on it, I should have Googled for old neftbat pages as suggested by Mellody. That would probably have resulted in the same conclusion.

This looks like it’s a cruel trick. If Andrew is right, and I think I agree that he is based on the clues, Grouchy Gnome should be going to Fan Faire for the next week. That would mean he won’t respond and confirm anything until he’s back if we are right!

What a let down…and to think, I hung on your every word Mr. Gnome…I built you into a god, an idea that was beyond that of flesh and blood…an embodiment of reason and law pure and unbound by the confines of our limited coil… to find that you are just a finite being of fallacy and emotion like the rest of us…it is far too much for me to take in…say it ain’t so…to find out you are really some MOG Community manager would tear me and my world apart…let me live my lie…for just a bit…longer
And the winner is… Andrew. And Budles was correct that this was a cruel trick, because I did indeed post this then immediately zoom off to Fan Faire to provide ample time for the suspense to both mount and fully dissipate. The revelation would have been anti-climactic if I’d confirmed it within a day or two, and since I’m into shameless self-promotion, I decided it would be better to make you want to know who I was, let you forget that you cared, then pull you back in by confirming the suspicions.
