Caution: Nerfbat Experimentation in Progress
I’m experimenting with my theme and would like to get the thing converted to meet theme standards for WordPress 2+ and increase its functionality. You may notice some brokenness with the site while I work on it. The biggest change so far: When you go to a single post or page, the nav bar goes away because I decided it didn’t need to be there. There have been other changes, but they’re harder to see because they’ve been under the hood. More changes to come over the next few days.

Talk about encouraging FIRST!!1! posts =P
as for the theme, very fruityotaybar
I was going for fruity.
So it’s a wee bit too weaksauce visually for me, but I’m going to let it run for a couple more days for experimentation’s sake. If I really decide I like it, I’ll probably convert it into my Scholar theme that I made so it visually looks pretty much the same as always, but has some additional functionality.
Am I just not seeing it? Where is the fruityness? En mis pantalones?
nm, I refresh and I see leafyness.
Two thumbs down, Ryan. Nerfbat is epic in its old nature. Functionality additions are one thing, but outright changes make my eyes bleed. I don’t mean to sound harsh, but I really liked the old design and the new one, not so much.
LOL i posted my comment and then went back to the index and the green swirly portal of bloodyeye was gone.
No way, it’s rustic and classy… er.. and umm… fruity..
but good
I’ve already decided to nix the idea of actually changing the look too much, but I do want to get this theme completely redone so I can add functionality easily. I made this theme in WordPress 1.0 days and have never updated it to follow the current standards. I just need to get the motivation to do all the updating necessary.
Hey, at least you’re not stuck with a cookie cutter blogspot theme. Unfortunately, my creative personality type has no patience to learn to program, so unless I have a bored programmer, I have to keep my butt sucking theme. /inadequacy rant.
I would have comments on how I didn’t like the new theme, but comments would never show up in my browser.
bah I didnt’ get to see the flowers. I do like this one though. It has a nice rustic piratey look.
A couple more tests…
- Gravatars are now on. I hide them if you don’t have one associated with your email address.
- I fixed the issue with the auto comment preview not putting extra spaces in there when you hit enter twice (current side-effect: if you make a single linebreak, it still shows it with two… not too big a deal).
- There are smiley links just above the comment section that you can click to include in your comments.
- The 10 latest posts on Nerfbat are displayed at the bottom of each post.
- I added a bunch of bookmark type icons to the bottom of posts (there used to be about 5).
- The “Print this post” function has been updated and works a bit nicer… it was a seldom used feature, so it got moved up with the info text under the post.
- Trackbacks automatically add themselves to posts via Technorati. Kinda wonky but I’ll watch it as time goes on to see if I really like it.
