The Animated Bayeux Tapestry
This is pretty cool: The Animated Bayeux Tapestry. The not-so-animated Bayeux Tapestry describes the events leading up to and including the Norman invasion of England, and it’s very impressive. The animated version is the same thing, but someone took the time to animate it and put sound to it, and it is seriously pretty awesome. It reminds me a little of Fable’s tapestry storytelling (which I also really liked), and looks like something that could be converted into a usable form in a game near you.

I too liked Fable’s tapestry segues. It enhanced the overall experience, and reinforced Fable’s core theme. While the Bayeux Tapestry is cool, it treads very close to the line of Monty Python animations. If this function were included in a game, one would have to be very particular about the animation and art style, the music, and sound effects to ensure just the right, intended effect.
That is pretty cool. It would be a great addition to a game. I love how LotRO has all the videos.
That was really cool, i can’t believe someone took the time to do all that.
My first MMO experience was The Realm.
The player point of view was similar to UO execpt the camera did its work like the tapestry animation.
Given the new immersive POV current MMO’s uses;
I could see how using the “tapestry” camera to tell and interact with a particular/critical situation in the Lore of your game would be an awesome contrast.
Gives you the approach or sensation of someone physicaly writing his/her story as you play, not the mention the nostalgia factor you could trigger in all those old schoolers who once played UO, The Realm and games of that era.
Nice find, that animator has a good nose. Did you smell that?
Today I in game my hubby said in guild chat, “OMG… I just got slaughtered by an orange!” and a guildmate said, “OMG… an orange killed you!” meaning the fruit.. haha yeah funny.
Well I said, “Could you imagine if an orange or banana did suddenly come out of nowhere and kill you! That would be so freaking funny and shocking.” Then of course I said it could never happen because if something random like that popped up in a serious mmo people would flip out. Then of course I went on that it could only happen in an mmo if that mmo was Monty Python Online. This of course made me think of you, so I came here to post about.
Most likely I am only finding this really funny because it is super late and I can barely keep my eyes open, and I will probably regret that I even posted this tomorrow! But enjoy:) I can handle the mockery!
There is a site somewhere where many figures from the Tapestry can be placed on a blank page and you can type text, sort of like Bayeux Colorforms.
