Baseball CAN Be Exciting
I’m not a big fan of baseball, but given that my boss is Curt Schilling, I’ve started watching Boston Red Sox games. In particular, I watch games he pitches or Red Sox/Yankees games. Tonight was both of those, and it didn’t look too good going into the 8th. It was 6-2, with the Yankees in the lead at the bottom of the 8th. Then the Red Sox rallied, and managed to pull ahead to 7-6. Top of the 9th, 7-6 in favor of the Sox, and Okajima kicks some ass for the save! It’s probably the first time I’ve ever been excited while watching a baseball game, and it won’t be the last. Congrats, Curt and the Red Sox.

Baseball is the perfect game.
If you’re not excited while watching a Baseball game, you’re not paying attention to what you should be paying attention to. It’s definitely not a typical action-packed sport, like Ice Hockey, or Rugby. It’s more akin to chess than most other sports. It’s a thinking man’s game. But it does require incredible physical talent and conditioning.
As Yogi said, “Baseball is 90% mental… the other half is physical”.
National League Baseball is, of course, the better brand of ball. American League ball is just too straightforward. There’s so much more strategy and subtlety going on in the National League.
But any way you play it, Baseball is the perfect game.
O man that was a great game! I hate the Yankees even tho I am from New York. My entire family loves them except for me. So I always have to root for Boston whenever they are playing the Yankees considering they hate Boston more than any other team.
Baseball CAN be exciting.
I’ve been a huge fan of Baseball since I can remember, and this is coming from a guy who’s city has never had a Major League Baseball team. Partly the cities fault and other parts finacial reasons. I live in Portland, OR, the bigger of the two major Portland cities. But over here on the west coast, Portland is the last option for business to enter in to, and Seattle, WA gets to beta test business before they most likely are going to launch their product in to Portland, OR.
I’ve however had the Portland Beavers to keep me company over the years and there was a time when I saw the city get demoted down to Short Season A ball with the Portland Rockies. But we’ve bounced back and now have the Portland Beavers back in town and they do semi decent for a community that was all hyped about getting the Montreal Expos only to see them wind up in Washington D.C. Where our team used to be the Minnesota Twins, now we belong to the San Diego Padres as our affiliate Major League team.
I’ve also been a huge fan of pitching all my life, never really cared for the 7-6 games, but been more of a fan of the 3-2 games in baseball where the pitching is top notch and dominate. I’ve got to see the likes of Randy Johnson in person with the Seattle Mariners, along with Ken Griffey Jr, and Alex Rodriguez. I’ve got to watch other dominators on T.V like yours turely Curt Schilling, Nolan Ryan, and so many others of our times.
There there is my second past time when not knee deep in massively multiplayer online games - Out of the Park Baseball, where I get to simulate Baseball History since 1901 if I choose too. I get to relive the glory days of baseball and I’ve even got it set to automatically import the rookies at their proper year and have almost every Major League Baseball players picture. I’ve been toying with creating a league that will span 1972 (Birth year) to 2007 where I will be the Boston Red Sox or Detroit Tigers and see how many World Series I can win in that span of time.
Baseball - Greatest Game on Earth!
Oh, and I will post a link or stats on Curt Schilling so others can see what he is up to in a digital league.
