Wrath of the Lich King

So the new World of Warcraft expansion seems to be pretty much confirmed at this point, given a slew of pictures of information about it. This one includes details on the major features, and WoW Insider has a bunch more pictures. Is it just me, or is the list of features distinctly underwhelming? Not to mention the Burning Crusade, which added 2 races and less than a dozen zones after more than TWO YEARS. It just doesn’t seem like enough. Given, I don’t know their timeline for the next expansion, but it still isn’t that big of a list even if it’s a year after the first. Also, someone scooped up the .COM before Blizzard.

Here are the features allegedly printed about the expansion:

  • The dark, necromatic Death Knight, the first new character class added to World of Warcraft since its launch
  • Northrend, the harsh, icy continent where the Lich King holds rule, complete with new zones, quests, items and monsters
  • New level cap of 80 providing access to mighty new powers and talents
  • New battlegrounds featuring siege engine warfare and destructible buildings
  • Expanding character customization options including new hairstyles & dances, the ability to change the hairstyles of existing characters, and new skin color variants

So, yeah, not the most impressive list of features. I do enjoy siege warfare in MMOs quite a bit, but that’s the only one that even seems particularly cool to me, and it won’t apply to everyone who gets the expansion. It seems we only have about 15 minutes before the opening ceremony, so there will probably be more details on the sites I linked above (particularly, WoW Insider) as the day wears on.
