Another Dash of Comedic Spice
Thanks to Jack Thompson, notorious anti-gaming lawyer, we have another dose of inanity. This time, he is filing against the creators of BioShock (which, interestingly, has nothing to do with Rockstar as he claims). Here’s the link and here’s a clip: “Take-Two… is aggressively marketing its newest Mature-rated video game to kids under 17 years of age… On this Friday’s night’s 8 pm Eastern time airing of WWE’s wrestling program “Smackdown,” there were repeated ads for Take-Two/Rockstar Game’s Mature-rated, incredibly violent BioShock … This rampant fraudulent trade practice is precisely what ‘Big Tobacco’ did with its ‘Joe Camel’ and other teen-targeting ads, while at the same time lying to Congress that it was not marketing its adult product to kids.”

I thought this yahoo was dealing with other things. Honestly …
What was Jack Thompson doing watching Smackdown? Last time I checked, even though it is staged, WWE still “looked” like fighting, and plenty of kids are encouraged by it to fight.
Does this guy believe his own hype or is he simply a bane on an already overly litigious (sic) society?
Can we some how stop bringing his insane actions into the media so that he fades back into nutville?
Can I use the video game violence defense when I shoot him with laser beams? Well once they are on the open market for personal use.
I thought Thompson got disbarred, or is that just in process? Maybe he hired another (real?) lawyer to file the case on his behalf.
If memory serves, isn’t wrestling shown after 9 nowadays, when the local TV stations will allow adverts for rated R/M movies/games?
And to answer MrWuss, Yes - he believes his own hype. And apparently after playing so much Dungeons and Dragons I can summon demons and cast Magic Missile at the darkness, now that I’ve become an 8th level player and my DM has inducted me. Woo!
