From what I can see (and this is totally uninformed, off the top of the head, I didn't take notes and haven't run the numbers so don't sue me) it seems to be Instances = Good Coin, Open Sea = Good XP. I'm still in the 'hey, sailing is cool' phase and haven't found sailing upwind to be too much of a hassle *if you tack*. But yeah, it's a totally different pace to most other titles. I think I've resigned myself to the idea that it's never going to be the nautical / historical RPG that I'd hoped it would be. Going ashore and finding a bunch of busty female Royal Marines finally put that notion to rest and, if FLS can live with that, well, I'll just *have* to put up with all the bimbo 'captains' running around. Tried open beta, had enough of the ´sailing is neat´ and then left it.. I do prefer sandbox games, where you are free to do and to go wharever you want. My old heap-o'iron is merely able to run WoW. POTBS Open Beta was rather a slide show for me as soon as I enhanced the gfx settings only the slightest bit :( And with setting at lowest, it just looks dull. That said, if I'd had a spare gift card or somesuch lying around I might have (and may still) pick it up. The PvP aspect of the game was really a ton of fun. When sailing into the wind, you go so incredibly slow it's ridiculous. Not to mention having to reach an exit point sometimes after you've completed the mission entirely. It would be moving into the niche realm, but I actually wish they'd gone even further with it and let you do your sea battles in a first person mode on your ship. Call it "expert mode" but doing battles from the ship deck (PvE or PvP) would kick ass. The only time I didn't like it is when I had to sail out of some area to complete a quest and it was right into the wind the whole way - took me 5 minutes to exit a quest once I'd finished.
