Razer DeathAdder Review
Everyone knows I love massively multiplayer games. Not everyone knows that I love many other types of games, especially first-person shooters. I’m far more competitive in FPS games than I am in MMO games and, because of this, I always seek out the best hardware possible to enhance my game. This lead me to take an interest in the Razer DeathAdder gaming mouse, and it does not disappoint.
I won’t bother you with too many technical specifications or even an in-depth review, because I know the attention span of readers. So, let’s just dive right into the pros and cons of the Razer DeathAdder.
Pros
- Ultra Responsive: The instant that you move the physical mouse, the cursor moves on the screen. It boasts a 1ms response time, compared to an 8ms response time for most gaming mice.
- Super Accurate: Ever want to shoot your enemies directly between the eyes? With this bad boy, you can.
- Comfortable: When you use a mouse for hours on end, it has to feel good. This does feel good–even better than my old Logitech G5. I can use it all day long without any discomfort.
- Customizable: You can customize what each of the 5 buttons does, how sensitive everything is, and even change the sensitivity on-the-fly. You can even upgrade the firmware on the mouse itself.
- Wired: Wireless mice are slow. This isn’t wireless. It uses a cord with a gold-plated USB connection.
- Looks Cool: It’s black and blue and glows. So sexy looking. Not to mention, you can just tell that it was constructed well.
Cons
- Horrifically Bad Box: The box was not made by a gamer. The back is utterly useless with unexplained technical specs in 10 languages. Only once on the box does it even say that it’s fast, responsive, and accurate. Once.
- Minimal Marketing: Who has even heard anything about Razer since the Boomslang? Until I picked this up, I thought they were worse than Logitechs and overpriced. I was wrong.
- Installation Trouble: Though being able to upgrade the firmware on the mouse is awesome, doing that made it so I had to reinstall the software (after installing it before hooking the mouse up). It was confusing and annoying.
- Right-Handed: If you are a lefty, don’t get this mouse. Look to one of the other Razer’s, as this is ergonomically designed for right-handers.
I’ve tried a lot of different mice to improve my game, and this is the best gaming mouse I have ever laid my hands on, bar none. If you care about winning at any twitch game, pick one up. Seriously.

I have a G5, and a large hand. I like that I can bulk up the weight of the G5 quite a bit, does this have anything like that?
It doesn’t have a weight pack like the G5. I actually thought of that as a negative to begin with, but ended up forgetting that fact so it must not bother me in the end. I made my G5 much heavier than most people do myself, but still am happy with the weight of the DeathAdder even though it doesn’t weight that much.
“Everyone knows I love massively multiplayer games. Not everyone knows that I love many other types of games, especially first-person shooters.”
What? Quit playing FPS games and get back to work on your MMOG.
I’d swear by my DeathAdder if it wasn’t for the software actually messing up my computer so that I can’t alt+tab out of a game without the cursor locking in the upper right corner.
Without the software the mouse works fine and is very responsive, just as you say.
Only problem that I see with it, is only 5 buttons. I use an MX revolution, and before that an MX1000, and I have every button there specially set up. Even the left / right on the wheel scroll is programmed depending on the game.
