Unreal 3.0+ is interesting in that the scripting system (kismet) is very powerful, intuitive and easy to use (redundant no?), pathing aka Kynapse is still questionable for the most part and there really isn't much if any brush work because its all done by artists via models. This makes for a very beautiful world (typically) that is functional and fairly fast (models are generally more efficient) with great events (its easy to add functionality to kismet as well as creating events), the zoning/sectoring system is fairly robust vs just using vis portals.

Anyhow I think it's a solid choice of the available engines vs making their own from scratch (and more cost efficient)

I like the philosophy of partnering with vendors for the core client/backend systems.

How does the Unreal 3 engine run on older hardware? One assumes they won't make EQ2's mistake of requiring a high-end system to run well. Can Unreal 3 crank on a low-end system, ala WoW?

So does this mean we can expect console versions of Copernicus? Also aren't Far Cry 2 and the CryEngine more powerful engines, although with arguably fewer tools? And lastly do you think Epic will finally add support in Unreal engine for colors other than brown and dingy grey by late 2010?
