Age of Conan: Tyranny (PvP)
So the reason I’ve been quiet all week is… Age of Conan! Yep, it came out, and it’s better than I expected. I wanted to wait to get a good impression of the game before I posted anything about it. I’ll probably stick with it for a while. If you want to play on a PvP server, I’m Luckbad (level 20 Conqueror) on Tyranny. I’m with the Nocturne guild, which is a great group of folks that I played LotRO with.

Are things going smoothly? I’m not going to try it out until any launch woes are smoothed out.
Make sure to tell Teljair that Peak called him a noob.
So, in your opinion, for being a “mature” MMO, how mature are the players?
I’ve been playing as well, and other than some annoying bugs and a fairly horrible UI, it’s better than I thought as well. I’m playing on a PVE server (Set).
In my experience the community there is rather mixed. There are some very mature players and there are some vocal tools trying to stir things up, who are readily added to the ignore list. Going forward I think this is what we can expect from every MMO release. There is no magic gate the keeps out the tools and no special test that exposes you to only those players you like. This is the result of the market for MMO’s expanding. We just have to deal with it and enjoy our games. I don’t really find the community to be any different than any other MMO I have played in the last few years save SWG, which is a special case.
Hey how are the queue times for mini games on Tyranny? I rolled on a PVE server and now I’m beginning to second guess that decision. I saw your post pop up in my google reader today and thought that I might look at Tyranny and Nocturn to reroll a new character. I’m on Set PVE, and at level 30 I manage to get only 1 or 2 games that become available per 2-3 hour session. Kinda slow for my taste.
The community is the same maturity level as the average MMO… Meaning, I don’t think the 18+ rating stopped 15 year olds from playing. As far as queue times for the mini-games on Tyranny, I have no idea. I haven’t tried them yet and honestly don’t know where to go to try them.
My most recent experiences involved going to our guild’s land and checking out the Keep (woohoo) we have set up. The plots for guild cities are pretty friggin’ huge, which I think is awesome. We have a long way to go to build a full city, but we’ve already gotten started.
I think I’m going to load up tonight. I’ll be an assassin named Bandish. Is there a preferable race to start for joining the guild? Is there a starting location that is preferable for the guild? Checked on the site really quick but didn’t see anything.
Everyone starts on the newb island.
When you leave the island, it’s a simple hailing a guy on the dock to travel to the starting city. Only three races, and only certain races can be certain classes — in other words, you really don’t have a choice of what race you play or where you start in most cases.
Thanks, Peak. Loading up right now. The “mature” ratings and content I’ve been reading about have me intrigued. I’m liking the game already and I haven’t even logged in yet.
Hey Peak, how is Deathwisper? (You are the noob, not me!)
The community on Cimmeria (RP-PvP) is already developing IC guild feuds and policing against stupid-namers. Meaning, they are all KoS. It’s awesome.
I am having a pretty good time with AoC, definitely a pleasant surprise. I ended up rolling on a PvE server–Omm–the community seems to be about average indeed; I was bracing myself for the worst. I am playing with some buddies, so that helps. The game is absolutely beautiful and I am really impressed by the attempt at creating a truly immersive and story-driven experience. My only gripes are relatively minor and not really worth mentioning. I’m probably going to hang in there for a while see how the game and community develop. Props to Funcom.
I’m killing everything in sight that is a level or two above or below me. I’m not ganking anyone, but everyone on Tyranny in the 21 - 25 level range seems like they just kos. I’ve had to adopt the attitude that it’s going to be them and not me when someone comes within the range of my bow.
I have been playing when time allows (Kezkel on Deathwhisper) really loving it (esp since brokers are back up). Also I hear there is a pretty good news site out there with probably a drunken podcast on the way.
Just sayin’
Nice, Cyanbane. You should have joined Tyranny, though. Bastard.
Our Keep is awesome.
We need more gold!
I have to admit, I’m having a blast in AoC. I was skeptical. The advancement is pretty steady and you have a lot of areas to explore after level 20. Resource gathering seems a little whack right now though…sometimes I harvest 12 - 16 items from a node…sometimes one item. I know it’s because of respawns, but it just seems odd. Other than that, it’s been fun hanging with the group in Nocturne.
Teljair — Back on EQ2 for now. AOC is nice, but I’m not quite ready to give up my illusionist yet!
Also — Sorry for using this to talk to Teljair, Ryan!
Have fun, Peak.
All us eq2-daily peeps rolled on Deathwhisper just because thats where all the big guilds were going, and we wanted to have multiple people we could talk trash too and then get PK’d by.
Well thats were some of the big guilds went, not all of them.
PIcked it up today and just got done with the LONG LONG installation…
