Give WAR A Chance
Mythic should really make that a bumper sticker. Despite my ranting about non-current Mythic employees not getting credit for helping create Warhammer Online, I’m excited about the game after the preview weekend. I’ve been messing with the Road to WAR site, and now I’m collecting the heads of my enemies.
Road to WAR is a fun little site that involves basically doing things to collect gold and victory points. You can embed things in your website and, if people click on the links, you get some money. It’s amusing, but I still wish I could play right now. Dear any Mythic employee who can get me into the Elder testing, I would love to get into Elder testing and help. 
I was part of the preview weekend and finally got my hands dirty with WAR, and I really did enjoy it. I’ll probably end up playing a Rune Priest or Zealot, depending on which side my guild leans toward.
There were good things and bad things, but the most important thing is that I had fun. I’m more excited about this game than any MMO for quite some time. So, if you’re on the fence about trying the game, I’d recommend at least giving it a try before you get sucked in by the Wrath of the Lich King.
I’d give a more complete breakdown of my thoughts, but I try not to get too specific when I comment about other MMOs (unless I’m particularly riled up). Suffice it to say that it’s fun and it has tremendous potential.
A recent addition to Road to WAR, which I’ve been using to distract myself (along with WARDB), is embeddable heads. You can put these on your site and people can click on them to collect the heads of their enemies. Since I’m signed up as Order on the site, I can put the Destruction heads on mine. So, if you’re looking for heads, click away.
Oh yeah… if you sign up, put in rshwayder [at] gmail [dot] com as your referrer so I can collect some gold.You can also see some of their other embeddable bits of fun in another post.
Anything for my inner carebear in WAR?
I don’t think the game is ready for launch. I was disappointed to hear they went gold yesterday. I want it to succeed so much but I’m afraid people will be turned off by all the bugs and the lack of polish.
I’m pretty much a carebear myself. The normal PvE stuff is good, the PQs are good. Neither are “hardcore” in any way.
His inner carebear has teeth.

You….are a carebear? When the hell did that happen? Did you misplace your testicles again? (check your wife’s purse). Never thought I would see “Shwayder” and “carebear” in the same sentence unless there was a “hungers for the flesh of” in between.
Yeah, if any Mythic employees drop by…I’d be happy just if my open beta code worked. That would be nice.
And, Draegan, holy crap! Not only can you talk up a storm…you can write one up too!

I’m an enforced carebear as far as time is concerned. I’ve had to try to adjust my motivations to compensate for a lack of playtime. I still play pretty hardcore when I’m in the game, but even so, I’m not a giant a-hole most of the time… unless you give me something like the ability to kick people off ledges with a horse.

Did you try replacing anything that looks like an O or 0 in the code with a Q? They misprinted a bunch of them. Anything that looks like an O or 0 is supposed to be a Q.
Gone gold doesn’t mean they can’t patch anymore. They’ll be working on bugs up to the second the servers come on-line.

Yeah…I ran across that. However, I received my codes via email from EBGames. In addition to typing them in, I even copied and pasted them in. Here is what I *think* happened and hopefully it can be fixed. The email from EBGames instructed me to put the code into the Beta Center. The Open Beta site then tells you to put the code into your master Mythic Account even if you put it in the beta center. I’m wondering if there isn’t a bug between the Beta Center and Mythic’s account system. My code went into the beta center just fine. The Mythic account system is telling me my code is already in use. Fileplanet also tells me my code is invalid.
I have scattered emails all over Mythic, Fileplanet and the Beta Center area. I’ve even asked EBGames for a new code. I know that last request probably won’t happen. I just hope it gets ironed out by Open Beta.
