City of Twixt
Loyala professor David Myers reminds me of myself in Ultima Online. He played his experimental City of Heroes character, Twixt, in much the same way I prefer to play characters in PvP MMOs–like a jerk who uses the rules of a game against its players. The difference between the two of us is that he did it for “research” while I do it “because I am awesome.” Read this article.

Hmm. That makes both of you douchebags but I’m going to opt for the Prof. as the biggest douche. I’m a Prof. and he gives us a worse name. If I were a game designer I might lean the other way.
Good to see you posting again.
Yeah, I was a huge douche in UO. I still revert to those ways sometimes (e.g. kicking people off cliffs with a horse in AoC for many hours), but I’m generally a lot nicer (and I’ve never really been a jackass in chat, just with my actions).
Thanks, Garthilk. The vacation is over and I’ll be taking the in-laws to the airport tonight. I’ll still have the new puppy to slow my posting down, but I expect to be able to make some worthwhile posts soon.
The comments to that article are kind of spot on. He was being a douche to people and then acting surprised/upset when people treated him like a douche.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with playing to the edges of the rules (as long as you don’t cross them; if I was a CoH dev I’d have stopped that teleport-to-the-guards exploit almost immediately), except that you’re being a jerk… just don’t be surprised when people treat you like a jerk.
