Jeff Freeman is Bigger than (Second) Life!

One of the funnier blog posts I’ve read on a gaming blog in recent minutes appeared on Jeff Freeman’s blog. He raises both an issue of importance, and one of unimportance. One of the two is that Jeff Freeman needs to get more press and become more popular. The other is that the press believes Second Life is a far greater financial success than it actually is. You be the judge as to which is important, but I wholeheartedly agree on both fronts. As soon as they publish real numbers about paying subscribers, then perhaps I’ll get on the SL train. Until then, it’s the Segway of MMOs in my mind.

WarCry Interviews GMG

WarCry interviewed a couple of us here at Green Monster Games recently. Check out the article and come back here to complain about how we didn’t really reveal any new information about the project. There are a couple of minor bits in there that I don’t think we’ve said elsewhere, but it’s probably not juicy enough to sate your hunger.

Beware of Dangerous Devices

Part of I-93 was shut down in Massachusetts due to suspicious devices appearing in several locations at once. Read the story here. Now take a hard look at the devices when you can actually see the pattern in certain videos. Okay, a revelation appears after the fold. Continue Reading »

Boston Post Mortem, January 2007

I plan on attending my first Boston Post Mortem meeting tomorrow, so if you live in the area, I look forward to seeing you there (that means you, Jason Booth). It will be taking place at the Skellig in Waltham from 7:00 to 10:00 (PM–Game devs aren’t up at 7 in the morning). More details can be found at the Boston Post Mortem website.

5 Things You Don’t (Want To) Know About Me

I wasn’t sure if I was feeling left out, or if I was incredibly grateful that I hadn’t been tagged yet. Who am I to break a meme that has had a lifetime of roughly two weeks too long? I finally noticed that prognosticator of Virgin Worlds decided to tag me, so I will oblige and do my duty as one of the bloginati by revealing 5 things you don’t (want to) know about me. Happy New Year!

It’s the new year–2007. Time for all of us to mess up when we write dates down for the next month or three. Time to plan what new year’s resolutions we’ll be breaking. Time to begin anew and change your dastardly 2006 ways. This year’s date to watch out for the end times: July 7th. I hope the new year brings you joy, happiness, and at least a few great video games.

Merry Christmas!

Yes, I said it. There is no “X” in “Christmas.” There is no “Happy Holidays” in “Christmas.” I am wishing you a Merry Christmas. I’m sure you’ll have a nice holiday time if you don’t celebrate it, but I’m not wishing you a happy [insert one of half a million random holiday names here] because I celebrate Christmas. With that, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and Santa brings you all the fluffy bunnies you asked for, unless you were naughty, in which case I hope he brings you lumps of coal from that train that dumped a bunch in my hometown of Denver. Love, Ryan.

Fuzion Frenzy 2

One of the lesser-known Xbox games that my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed was called Fuzion Frenzy. Now Fuzion Frenzy 2 is coming to the 360! Hopefully they make this downloadable via Live. If they do, it will make a killing. If they don’t, it will probably see less success than it otherwise could. Anyway, there’s one of the very few endorsements you’ll ever see from me for a game that I didn’t work on. ;)

Everything Is Known for Its Worst Qualities

You know that smelly guy at work? Maybe it’s B.O. or bad breath, but everyone knows who it is. The interesting thing is, that’s how you classify that one person. They could be the smartest or hardest working guy in the office, but you still think of him as the smelly one. It’s the exact same way when it comes to games. Continue Reading »
